Shannon is a graduate of Southwestern Oklahoma State University, where he earned his bachelor’s degree in Business Management. He started his career as an Assistant Golf Professional at Lincoln Park Golf Course in 1997 and was there until 2002. From Lincoln Park the strong south winds pushed him to Wichita Country Club in Wichita, KS, where he worked for Cary Cozby and alongside Greg Bray and Josh Cook, who are each highly respected for merchandising, teaching and their playing abilities. While at W.C.C., Shannon was elected to PGA membership in February of 2005. An opportunity came up and the chance to move back to Oklahoma and work at Lincoln Park again, only this time as the Head Golf Professional. In his last year at Lincoln Park, Shannon received the Western Oklahoma Chapter Teacher of the Year award from his peers. After almost 7 years there, a position opened up at the place he had always wanted to be, Lake Hefner Golf Club. Shannon accepted the Head Professional position in December of 2012.  After several years learning from one of Oklahoma's top PGA Professionals, Alsie Hyden, he was approached by a good friend and opponent  (Tim Graves) to become the Director of Schools for The Graves Golf Academy, who are famous for teaching the Single Plane Swing based on Moe Norman.  Four fast seasons went by and after teaching thousands of students in person and over the internet, Shannon wanted to get off the road traveling and be at home more with his wife.  A newly created position of Director of Player Development opened up at Oklahoma City Country Club where he currently works and teaches.

An accomplished player, Shannon has won tournaments at every level, high school, college and professionally. While struggling with putting his entire career, in 2010, Shannon looked for help from one of golf’s top putter designers and fitters, David Edel. With the new Edel putter in hand, he finished that year with the tournament scoring average of 69.89, the lowest of his career. After their first meeting, David Edel offered Shannon a chance to become the first Edel Golf, putter and wedge fitter in Oklahoma, which he accepted and has been a top fitter ever since. Shannon has been doing custom club fittings for Callaway, Cleveland, Ping, Taylor Made and Titleist for over 22 years. While using launch monitors, lasers and the latest in equipment technology, then coupled with an understanding of the mechanics of the golf swing, Shannon is able to fit and help golfers of all abilities.

He began to teach the game professionally in 1997 and strives to continue learning how to become a more effective instructor. Passing on his knowledge of the golf swing and the game are the most rewarding parts of being a PGA professional. Some of Shannon’s brightest students include a few of Oklahoma’s top amateur players, PGA club professionals, Web.com players as well as numerous college and high school golfers. But the teaching is not limited to just better, more accomplished players. In fact, the opposite is true because there are far more new or less experienced golfers out there.  Plus they usually see the fastest and most improvement. Whether your goal is to beat your friends, lower your handicap, or even play competitively, Shannon has the unique perspective necessary to guide you towards your goals while having fun along the way.
